We are currently seeking a qualified Digger/Excavator Operator to join our Overhead Line Construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to support the installation of utility poles and related infrastructure in both energized and de-energized environments. This position will join the Power Division team in our Fredericton, NB Office.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate digger derricks, hydraulic excavators, and related equipment to excavate holes and set utility poles.
  • Perform work in proximity to energized lines and equipment, adhering to all live-line work procedures.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and routine maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Interpret construction drawings, staking sheets, and work orders.
  • Collaborate with line crews and ground personnel to ensure safe and timely project completion.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable safety standards, including OH&S, utility regulations, and company policies.
  • Perform other similar work in connection with the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines.
  • Manual labor and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating digger derricks and excavators in a utility or construction environment.
  • Valid Class 1 Driver’s license from the province of New Brunswick or equivalent from another province, with a clean driving record.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certification from a recognized training provider
  • Experience working in energized/live-line environments.
  • Strong understanding of utility construction safety practices.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Outdoor work in varied weather and terrain conditions.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting to 50-70 pounds, and in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat etc.)
  • Ability to operate jackhammer or dig bars to break concrete or rocks.
  • Ability to use a shovel, various other digging tools and power tools
  • Travel and overnight stays may be required.
